What does it mean to be self absorbed?

Someone said that I am self absorbed. What does that mean? Websters dictionary says that it means to be "absorbed in your own interests or thoughts", but other online dictionaries say that it means to be egotistical, selfish etc. Is a person that is introverted, thoughtful, or reflective self absorbed? Would a philosopher that spends a lot of time thinking and forming his theories about life be described as self absorbed? Isn't it good to think sometimes? Isn't everyone self absorbed to some degree?

Well, the bad way of thinking about being self absorbed is, snotty, vain, doesn't care about others, thinks their own problems are more important. Everyone is self absorbed in some way, but some more so then others. It is not necessarily a bad thing.

I see no contradiction. If you are absorbed in your own interests or thoughts, then it stands to reason that you are not very interested in other people and are therefore egotistical. You are the only person who is important for you.
A philosopher who spends a lot of time thinking and forming his theories is not thinking about himself, but about the nature, purpose and meaning of mankind.
