Obama Issues Dire Warning on Economy

Making another pitch for a huge economic stimulus plan, President-elect Barack Obama says "a bad situation could become dramatically worse" unless Congress takes action. Obama's comments come in a speech set to be delivered later today, but excerpts have already been released.

That's why the Bush administration declined the Obamas' request to move there in time for their girls to start their new school. The former PM is staying just one night. A spokeswoman for the first lady says other events are planned there as well.

Democrats Closer to Embracing Burris

Top Senate Democrats signal a softening in their initial opposition to seating Roland Burris in the Senate, praising the man and saying the matter is up to a court in Illinois. Burris' appointment to the seat held by President-elect Barack Obama is controversial because it was made by Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who's been arrested on federal corruption charges.
