Russia-Ukraine Gas Dispute Hits Europe

Turkey and several European countries, including Bulgaria and Greece, say supplies of Russian gas via Ukraine have come to a halt because those two countries are in a bitter fight over payment. The supply disruption comes as demand for gas rises during the winter months.

US Inaugurates New Embassy in Iraq

Under tight security, the United States officially opens a $700 million embassy in Baghdad. It's the largest embassy ever for the United States and, in a sign of the ongoing dangers in Iraq, it's also one of the most heavily fortified in the world.

Female Bomber Kills Dozens in Baghdad

Witnesses say a woman approached the gate of a revered Shiite shrine in Baghdad and blew herself up amid a crowd of Iranian pilgrims. The attack, which left 38 people dead, comes just days after Iraqi forces took the lead on security under a new arrangement with the United States.

Rockets Fired Into Israel From Lebanon

In a move that threatens to open a second war front for Israel, militants in Lebanon fire rockets into northern Israel. The attack comes in the second week of a deadly offensive launched by Israel into Gaza.
