WASHINGTON (AP) - A measure of the U.S. services sector improved slightly in December, beating analysts' estimates, but pending home sales and factory orders both fell more than expected and the overall economic outlook remains grim.

Why can't the press, here the AP, report good news, without editorializing and predicting future bad news. As long as commercial construction remains strong, that is good news for everyone. Report the news don't make it up!

Ninuk--suggest you look at a GNMA mutual fund--Vanguard has agood one. GNMA are government-backed mortgages with basicallyno default. Dividends are currently about 4.5%; that will go downwhen/if mortgages are refinanced. Until that happens, though, principal value will rise.
